Dasheen
Dasheen is a great source of fibre which provides a variety of health benefits, including supporting blood sugar management, gut health and heart health. Dasheen also has healthy amounts of potassium, magnesium and vitamin C.
Bhaji
Bhaji is one of the most popular leafy greens used in the Caribbean. It is rich in plant protein, dietary fibre, iron, calcium, magnesium, and vitamins A, C and K.
Peanut Punch
Peanuts are an excellent source of protein, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. They are high in fibre and may help support the digestive system, heart health, metabolism and weight control as part of a balanced diet.
Coconut
Coconut is rich in antioxidants that may help protect cells from damage and support skin health. Coconut meat contains large amounts of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs), a type of saturated fat that the body processes differently from many other fats. These MCFAs also have antimicrobial properties.
Linseed
Linseed is the small, reddish-brown or golden-yellow seed of the common flax plant, Linum usitatissimum. This is the same plant that is used to grow the fibre from which linen has been made for thousands of years. People use it as a dietary supplement for various health purposes. The nutrients in flaxseed include lignans, antioxidants, fibre, protein and polyunsaturated fatty acids such as alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an omega-3 fatty acid.
Bois Bande & Seamoss
Bois Bande: Bois Bande is commonly recognised as a natural aphrodisiac in Caribbean tradition. It is also traditionally associated with erectile support, stamina and vitality. Evidence supporting these claimed effects is limited.
Seamoss: Another Caribbean staple in punches and other drinks, seamoss contains iodine, dietary fibre and minerals. Its nutrient content varies by species and source. Claims relating to thyroid support, gut health, immunity, skin hydration and workout recovery should not be treated as established medical benefits.
Dandyroot & Seamoss
Dandyroot: Dandelion root has traditionally been used for liver-related remedies and digestive health. It contains plant compounds and prebiotic fibre and has been studied for antioxidant properties and possible diuretic effects. It is not a proven treatment for liver disease or other medical conditions.
Seamoss: This traditional Caribbean ingredient contains minerals and fibre, although its nutrient content varies. Check the product label for the ingredients used in each punch.
Beetroot Punch
Beetroot is a nutrient-rich vegetable that may help support healthy blood pressure and exercise performance. It also provides folate, manganese, potassium and vitamin C, and contributes to dietary fibre intake.
Susumber Punch
Susumber is a common traditional Caribbean ingredient known for its slightly bitter taste. Caribbean elders have traditionally used it in remedies associated with blood health, blood pressure, blood sugar, cardiovascular health, digestion and kidney health. These traditional uses do not establish that susumber treats anaemia or other medical conditions.
Pumpkin Carrot Punch
Pumpkin: Pumpkin is a nutrient-dense, low-calorie food packed with beta-carotene, vitamins A, C and E, and fibre that support normal vision, immune function and overall health.
Carrots: Carrots are an excellent source of fibre, potassium, vitamin K1 and antioxidants, including beta-carotene.
For generations, elders in the Caribbean have maintained that brightly coloured fruits and vegetables were good for vision as well as the skin.
Coffee Beans
Traditionally, Robusta coffee contains more caffeine than Arabica and can provide a familiar kick-start to your mornings. Pete’s Coffee, a locally grown Robusta coffee company, hails from Robert Village, Tableland, in southern Trinidad. Along with its packaged teas, cocoa-coffee and beans, it is also what we use to make our Coffee Vanilla Cream Liqueur. Kept in the family for generations, its products offer a distinctive roast and flavour.
